UNIT 3 - CLIMATE AND LIVING THINGS
Activity 1: Write a definition for atmosphere and describe it explaining the names of its different layers and the most important characteristics of each layer.
the atmosphere is a layer of air that surrounds the earth it is composed of the troposphere is the closest layer to the earth it is essential for live on earth, stratosphere 10-km altitude it is 20 km km upwards the ozone zone, mesosphere 50-80 km altitude temperatures drop quickly falling as low as 90ºc,thermosphere 80-500km altitude temperatures reach over 1000ºc,exosphere the outer limit of the atmospherewitch begins at an altitude of 500 km
the climatology is the study of climate
Activity 3: The elements of climate.
- Write a short description of each the following concepts.
- Search and paste images related to each of these concepts.
- Temperature -temperature is the amount of heat in the earth
- Precipitation-precipitation is water from the atmosphere that falls onto the earths surface
- Atmospheric pressure-the pressure that that the atmospheres weight exerts on the earths surface
-
-wind-is air that moves areas of low pressure to areas of high presure
Activity 4: The Earth´s climates. Write a description of the different climates of the Earth explaining its most important characteristics: Tropical (Equatorial, Humid Tropical and Hot deset), Temperate (Mediterranean, HYumid Sub-Tropical, Maritime, Continental), and Cold (Polar and Alpine)
Equatorial- temperatures are high throughout the year the mean annual temperature is over 20ºc
Humid Tropical- temperatures are high throughout the year .the mean annual temperatures are is over 20ºc
Hot deset- temperatures are high.the main annual temperature is over 20ºc
Mediterranean- temperatures are mild in winter and hot in sumer.the mean annual temperature is over 10ºc and 20ºc
HYumid Sub-Tropical- temperatures are simillar to the mediterranean climate
Maritime- temperatures are moderate troughout the year ,mild in winter and cool in sumemer
Continental- temperatures are very cold in winter and hot in summer
Polar - temperatures are very low not exceeding the 0ºc except the in some places at summer
Alpine-temperatures fall with altitude .winters are cold and sumer cool
Activity 5: Write a definition for the following concepts:
- Torrential -this is asociated with storms
- Moderate -
- Scarce -
- Crack -
- Burrow -
- Hibernation -
- Spin -
- Overflow -
- Livestock -
- Huge -
- Storm-
